MATH448 - Introduction to Differential Geometry and Tensor Analysis

Tensor analysis on submanifolds in n-space; Riemannian geometry of n-space, metric tensor, Levi-Civita connection, covariant derivative, Riemann curvature tensor: relation to Gauss curvature of surfaces; Additional topics at the discretion of the instructor. Prerequisites: MATH 348, or MATH 217 and one of MATH 225 or 227. Offered in alternate years. It may be offered in intervening years if demand is sufficient.
