MATH447 - Elementary Topology

Set Theory, metric spaces and general topology. Compactness, connectedness. Urysohn's Lemma and Tietze's Theorem. Baire Category Theorem. The Tychonoff Theorem. Homotopy and covering spaces. Primarily intended for third and fourth year students with a good background in Mathematics. Prerequisite: MATH 209, 217, 314 or both 214 and 216. Notes: (1) MATH 347 is recommended as a companion course. (2) Offered in alternate years. It may be offered in intervening years if demand is sufficient.
